Seven Deadly Sins

The study of the seven deadly sins developed in early Christian tradition as a practical way of naming patterns of sin that shape everyday behavior. They are often misunderstood as a list of forbidden actions, when they actually point to deeper habits of the heart from which many specific sins arise. Historically, Christians used this framework for honest self-examination rather than simply keeping moral score. As we prepare for Lent, the seven deadly sins can serve as a helpful resource, guiding repentance and encouraging the practice of virtues that support a holy life.

Via Media: The Anglican Church’s Catholic and Protestant Inheritance

People often ask, “Is the Episcopal Church Catholic?” After all, we have priests, celebrate the mass each week, honor the saints, and read from the Apocrypha in our lectionary. But others point out that our priests can get married, don’t submit to the Bishop of Rome as Pope, and embrace Protestant doctrines like the priesthood of all believers and justification by faith. So is the Episcopal Church Protestant? The answer to both questions is, “Yes!” Come explore the “Middle Way” of Anglicanism in this two-part class on how our church is both Catholic and Protestant and what that means for our unique form of worship and identity.
