How to serve in the church

Participate in the ministries of worship at St. Thomas. There are different opportunities that match your gifts.  Contact the church office about participating in these ministries.

The Altar Guild prepares the linens, candles, vessels and sacramental elements used during the worship service.  A member of the Altar Guild prepares the worship space in a reverent way that brings the glory to God, beauty in our worship spaces and facilitates the clergy's ability to perform the services.

Serve as a leader in worship by assisting the priest in administering the sacrament of Holy Communion.  Training Required.

Acolytes attend to certain duties in the worship service such as carrying procession crosses, the torches, or the Gospel book.  The acolytes also assist the priest or deacon with preparing communion.  Acolytes serve at both the 8:00AM and 10:30AM services on Sundays and special events. You must be entering into the 3rd grade to become an acolyte. Contact Richard Woodward to become an acolyte.

Lectors are our readers placed on a rotating schedule who read the lessons and (occasionally) the psalm during services.

We offer Children's Chapel during the 10:30AM service for children 8 years and younger.  The children follow the crucifer out following the Gospel Reading.  The children return at the Peace.  Children's Chapel is based on the St. Early Learning Center's weekly chapel.  There are two opportunities to serve: the children's sermon and worship leader.

Ushers serve at the 10:30 am service.  They welcome and distribute bulletins before the service.  During the service , the team passes collection plates and assists with ushering and assist people to the communion rail.
