COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: adopt AN AGGIE
Howdy Aggie & Blinn Students
If you are away from home and wishing you had a parent type to hang out with or have dinner with or just to call and ask for advice, you should consider being a part of the St. Thomas Adopt an Aggie program.
At St. Thomas Episcopal Church, you can sign up to be “adopted” by a parishioner and helper or family unit looking to make a difference in your life. Someone who wants to pray for you, get to know you, and share their gift of hospitality with you. What could be better?
If you are interested in being “adopted” please go to the following link and sign-up. Click here for the sign up document.
Assignments will be made at the end of September. A tentative calendar of events is on the St. Thomas website under Adopt an Aggie.
Interested in Adopting an Aggie or Blinn student?
You can make a difference in the life of a student who is attending A&M or Blinn by “adopting” a student. Many students have a desire to get to know families in their church community. Many of these students are living away from home for the first time and encountering transition, challenges, and trying to figure out where to get their hair cut. That’s where you come in.
Each participating “parent group” (two adults) are expected to adopt at least two students. Expectations for adopting parents:
host their adopted students for a meal and fellowship at least once a month be available as a source of support between visits (offering suggestions for reliable car mechanics or the best Mexican food)
prepare treats during exam or special times
serve as a listening ear when times are challenging
share perspectives on career and life issues
pray for the students daily.
