Welcome to St. Thomas Episcopal Church

Welcome to St. Thomas...

Change is what happens to anyone who isn't standing still, and we are in motion at St. Thomas.

Although we were founded more than seventy years ago as an Episcopal mission to Texas A&M University and continue to have close ties to the university, our congregation now represents the wider community. We recently expanded our property to accommodate the future needs of our parish, of the St. Thomas Early Learning Center (our day school for young children), and of Canterbury, the Episcopal College Ministry that shares our campus.

As we move into that future, we seek new ways to embrace a growing number of young families, to engage the youth of the parish, to welcome single adults, and to support the older members of our congregation. We are moving toward a richer understanding of our history and faith and toward a broader expression of our baptismal identity through worship, service to others, and a commitment to justice, peace and dignity for all God's people. Through all the changes at St. Thomas, we are, with God's grace, moving toward a deeper experience of living in community with one other and with Jesus Christ.

Our parish is also moving through a period of transition that will result in calling a new rector. After serving as Assistant Rector at St. Thomas for two years, I became locum tenens in May 2009. Locum tenens is a Latin phrase meaning "place holder," and I am pleased to serve in the place of a rector until a new rector can be called.

On behalf of the people of St. Thomas, I invite you to join us and become a part of the new creation.

In Christ's peace,

The Rev. Lisa S. Hines
Locum Tenens
