Welcome to St. Thomas Episcopal Church

Service and Outreach

...for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me
(Matthew 25:3, RSV)

We at St. Thomas take seriously our call to serve and reach out to others. Our ministries focus on people in our community and around the world.

Local Outreach

A long-standing outreach in the community is our membership in the Brazos Church Pantry. In addition to regular contributions of food and money, a member of St. Thomas serves on its Board.

St. Thomas also provides funds and participates in projects with Brazos Valley Habitat for Humanity, Brazos Valley Hospice, and Phoebe’s Home (a center for victims of domestic violence and their children).

Annually, St. Thomas participates in various community activities directed at children, most notably Stuff the Bus, supplying school supplies for children, and Angel Tree, giving Christmas gifts to local children with an incarcerated parent.

St. Thomas’ outreach to young people and their families in the community includes our own Early Learning Center, our support of the local Episcopal school St. Michael’s Academy, and our sponsorship of a local Boy Scout Troop.

Another important service is our support for the Episcopal College Ministry at Texas A&M University and Blinn College.

Finally, St. Thomas provides space for 12-Step groups to gather on a weekly basis.

International Outreach

St. Thomas recently took on a major project of supporting children in Malawi who have been orphaned by AIDS. This began with support for a small school in Thandiwe, but has now expanded to provide support for orphaned children through the Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi. St. Thomas and St. David’s (Austin) partnered to get this project, AIDS Orphans in Malawi, listed in the Diocese of Texas’ Missionary Funding Catalog.

For years, St. Thomas has been active in the Diocese of Texas’ Seafarer’s Christmas Gift Box Program, preparing and sending shoeboxes with small gifts for seafarers who are docked in the Port of Houston over the Christmas Holidays.

Stewardship For God's Creation

St. Thomas Green, a new ministry, was formed in response to a vision of St. Thomas as a "green" congregation, intentionally enacting our Christian responsibility to be good stewards of God's creation for this and future generations. For more information, see the St. Thomas Green web page.
