Eucharist in the Park — April 7, 2013

The Sunday after Easter, we celebrated again with Eucharist in the Park. Gathering at Bee Creek Park, we worshipped, ate barbecue, & played Kickball and other games.

Holy Week — March 24-31, 2013

Holy Week is always special for Christians, and we celebrate to our fullest at St. Thomas. It begins with the drama of Palm Sunday: reliving the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, then hearing the Passion Gospel. Maundy Thursday we recall the Last Supper and Jesus washing the feet of his disciples. The solemnity of Good Friday follows; then the glorious celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Bastrop Mission Trip — March 8-12, 2013

A group of high school students & adults traveled to Bastrop to spend 5 days helping to clean up in the aftermath of the 2012 wildfire. This group worked to demolish a home that was gutted by fire, preparing the site for rebuilding. Highlights of the week included a visit to Calvary Episcopal Church, Bastrop and reunion with their Rector & former St. Thomas priest, The Rev. Lisa Hines.

Youth Group's Lenten Retreat — Feb 15-17, 2013

The youth of St. Thomas joined with those of St. Mark’s Episcopal (Houston) for an overnight, Lenten retreat, away from it all. Over the course of the weekend, we focused on why we have Lent, what purposes it serves, worship, fellowship, & of course some games.

Youth Group Activities — Epiphany, 2013

This year, Epiphany finds the Youth Groups gardening & having fun. The High School Sunday School class started a garden in front of the Ministry Center. The EYC semester kickoff featured Human Clue. The youth were challenged to find who stole what from where, with burgers by Jim Woods.

Installation of Beth Lawrence as ELC Head — Jan 9, 20131

On the evening of Jan 9, Beth Lawrence was installed as Head of the Early Learning Center. Beth is a long-time ELC teacher &, with her family, a St. Thomas parishioner. Her friend, Bishop Andrew Doyle, joined us for the installation and reception.

Christmas Eucharist with Children's Choir & Pageant

Once again, our children celebrated the birth of Jesus with a pageant at the Christmas Eve Family Worship Service. Angels, Shepherds, Donkeys & Sheep welcomed Mary, Joseph & the Christ child. The Eucharist Celebration featured our Choirs (Adult, Folk & Children's), orchestra, handbells & a packed Sanctuary. [ photos… ]

Youth Groups Activities: Fun, Service & Outreach, Fall, 2012

• Fun: Messy Game Nights, Kickball, Homemade Homecoming, Fifth Quarter Celebration (after the football game), & Halloween.
• Service: Waterless Car Wash (raising money for mission trips) & Turkey Bowling after Thanksgiving Worship & Dinner.
• Outreach: Packing Christmas Boxes for Seamen at the Port of Houston & packing meals at the Brazos Valle Food Bank

EYC Costa Rica Mission Trip

San Cayetano de Venecia, Costa Rica, was the destination for the senior high EYC mission, and it blew away any and all expectations. On July 22, the nine students and four adults (including Rosie and Richard Woodward and Glen Lawrence) flew to San Jose and then drove across the mountains of Costa Rica to Rosie's hometown of San Cayetano. Our mission, was to paint a church, inside and out, clean it, paint the roof, varnish doors, and to grow with each other in faith through action and prayers. [ photos ]

Patriot Sunday — July 1, 2012

We celebrated our local fire, police, & service personnel on Sunday, July 1 with a common worship service at 10:00AM. Following the service, we came together for a picnic lunch accompanied by a live bluegrass band. Fire and EMT persons joined us and provided tours of a fire truck and ambulance. [ photos … ]

Vacation Bible School : The Story of Esther — June 25-28, 2012

Vacation Bible School focused on the Story of Esther, and we learned about what true beauty (and courage) really is. The week was highlighter with a video rendition of the story performed by our High School students and presented as a old-time silent movie. Each night we gathered for singing, supper, the lesson (movie), games, crafts, more singing and prayer. [ photos … ]

St. Cecilia Consort: Celebrating the Summer Solstice — June 24, 2012

The St. Cecilia Consort presented their annual Concert of Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music for voices and instruments, celebrating the Summer Solstice on Sunday, June 24. The concert featured music from England. The St. Cecilia Consort is an ensemble of local musicians who are interested in Early Music — music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. Junior High Students' Mission Trip to San Antonio —

The Junior High School students joined with students of other parishes in San Antonio to serve at the San Antonio Food Bank. In addition to preparing meals, the students visited the sights of San Antonio, had some fun, & made new friends. [ photos …]

EYC May Parties — May, 2012

In May, the EYC prepared for the end of the school year with a couple of events. First, a Tacky Prom was held in the Parish Hall on May 2. Then playing Human Clue led them on a trip through the local community on May 11. [ photos … ]

Children's Communion Class & College Senior Recognition —
May 6, 2012

Taught by Aimee Allen with the help of Eliza Fackler, the Children's Communion Class is designed for children in kindergarten through second grade. The program, designed by Mary Oxley, wife of former long-time Rector & founder of the ELC, Bill Oxley, is a wonderful series of lessons to make each child feel that he or she is a special person in the Community of St. Thomas.
