The Vestry is similar to a board of directors for our parish. The Vestry is the lay authoritative body of the congregation, and its nine members serve rotating three-year terms. The Vestry is responsible for helping to establish the policies and goals of the congregation and the Rector. Lay members of the Vestry are elected by the congregation. From the Vestry members, the Senior Warden is appointed by the Rector and the Junior Warden is elected by the Vestry members. The primary duties of the Vestry are to see to the temporal affairs of the St. Thomas, including taking charge of the property of the Church, and taking responsibility for its financial matters. In addition, the Vestry has other responsibilities such as selecting the Rector, supporting the Rector's ministry, and communicating with the congregation. The Vestry meets once a month, typically in the evening, and may be called upon to attend other events during the year and take charge of various subcommittees or events. The Vestry works closely with Rev. Rhoda in all matters and helps ensure the smooth functioning of our parish.
