St. Thomas Green:
Stewardship For God's Creation

St. Thomas Green, a new ministry, was formed in response to a vision of St. Thomas as a "green" congregation, intentionally enacting our Christian responsibility to be good stewards of God's creation for this and future generations.

Initial Activities & Events for St. Thomas Green:

  1. Design & selection of a logo for St. Thomas Green: Stewardship for God’s Creation. This beautiful logo (top left) is the work of three parishioners: Janet Fox, Mike Kelly, and Francie Kelly.

  2. Living Green: A Short Course: Each Sunday from April 6 through May 4, church members with special talents related to celebrating and protecting creation led a class.
    • April 6: Reflection: Living simply and with compassion (Kathryn and Chet Robinson)
    • April 13: Earth-kind gardening (Doug Welsh)
    • April 20: Doing an environmental assessment of your home (Jim Woods, Jan Hughes, and others)
    • April 27: Green at home: Earth friendly products (Janet Fox)
    • May 4: Environmental sustainability and social justice (Urs Kreuter)

  3. Parish Survey: In April 2008, parishioners were surveyed to obtain information about interests and talents related to conservation and the environment, as well as suggestions for this new ministry. A total of 48 individuals completed the questionnaire, either on-line or in writing. The responses were generally very positive about STG, and we received several excellent suggestions for future activities (e.g. adult classes on the theological foundation for environmental stewardship; more "how to" classes or workshops on living green).
